About Us

City of Jefferson Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry provides facilities, programs and experiences for the residents and guests that contribute to an enhanced quality of life. JC Parks maintains 1,400 acres of parkland that consist of 20 parks, 40 miles of trails, 13 playgrounds, 15 ball fields, two swimming pools, a public golf course, a wellness and recreation center, and a one-sheet indoor ice arena.

Our Mission and Vision

The mission of JC Parks is to strengthen the Jefferson City community through quality parks, facilities, and programs. We strive each and every day to provide opportunities that create value and inspire physical and mental well being.

We envision an interconnected and accessible system of vibrant public spaces and natural areas that support a diversity of recreation opportunities and ensure a healthy, active, and beautiful place to live, work, and play.

Master Plan

Parks and Recreation was a component of the City’s Comprehensive Plan Update adopted by City Council in March 1996. A golf course master plan was completed and adopted in 2001 and an updated to the greenway master plan was completed in 2007 (the original greenway master plan was adopted in 1991). The last formal Parks and Recreation Master Plan Study was completed by Harland Bartholomew and Associates dated November 1952.

The current Park System Master Plan, completed in 2018, is based on extensive involvement from the public, reflecting the voices of numerous City of Jefferson residents and staff members. with this plan, Jefferson City has identified the steps to guide improvements in the park system over the next ten to twenty years, further advancing its position as a nationally recognized State Capital community. It provides the tools for City of Jefferson to evolve efforts to update healthy neighborhoods, provide a regional draw for the community, to work hand-in-hand with residents to strengthen community social fabric through equitable distribution of improvements, build identity, and further connect the city with greenways.
